Situations When Cheap Double Beds Will Do
To help take some of the confusion out of buying a new mattress, Cheap Mattress Reviews was founded to provide you with consumer reviews of all the leading mattresses available today.
If you live in a small apartment and don’t have the luxury of space to keep a permanent bed made up in a spare room to accommodate visiting guests then there are a couple of types of cheap double beds you can look at that will provide good temporary bedding solutions. Apartment living doesn’t have to mean that you can’t invite couples over to stay!
One type of cheap double bed is a futon. The beauty of these is that, if you buy the right type, they can act as a couch in your living room during the day and then quickly and conveniently be converted into a bed for a visiting couple or a single friend, as needed. The sofa bed futons will have a metal or wooden frame that is collapsible into a flat position, allowing the mattress to rest flat on top of it. Just throw on a couple of pillows, a comforter and some sheets and covers from a bed in a bag and you will have the bed made up and ready for the night in minutes flat!
Another great, cheap option for the same situation, if you have already bought your furniture in your apartment and don’t have the space for a sofa bed, is an air mattress. These needn’t take up any space at all and can pack away into a closet or cabinet. When you have guests staying, simply pull out the air mattress and its pump (this may be electric or battery-operated), inflate it in minutes, throw on the bedding and you are ready to go!
Air mattresses need not only be an option for kids or campers – they come in all shapes, qualities and sizes now, so if you buy a decent double size mattress and a frame, together with a couple of bed in a bags, you will have most eventualities covered. Whether you have a single guest staying, a couple or whether you want to use the mattress yourself on a camping trip, it will all be there.
Some air mattresses these days are made as large and bulky as normal mattress sets and the fancy ones can cost almost as much. But you won’t need to spend big for the type of use we are talking about here. You can pick up a good quality cheap double bed air mattress for $100-150. Of course you can get cheaper, but these won’t be as well made and don’t forget that cheap ones can develop punctures easily like bicycle tires – especially the case if you have cats or other pets that have sharp claws!
The best air mattresses these days will have anti-slip undersides so they are good to use on tiled floors and may also have fittings on the mattress to keep the sheets and bedding in place. They can be a simple soft plastic type of finish or more elaborate brushed cotton for extra softness on the sleeping surface. A variety of pads and covers can be used in conjunction with them for extra comfort and protection of the mattress, if needed.
If you want to raise your air mattress off the ground– for example when camping – the double bed frames for air mattresses are usually foldable, so to use them you will take them from their bag, unfold all the parts and then lock them into position. These will be as expensive as the mattress in most cases but it is worth getting a well-made frame for obvious reasons; poor ones tend to collapse which can be inconvenient, painful or worse!
Plenty of futons, air mattresses and other inexpensive double beds are available online these days and hunting around the quality online retailers will pay dividends, if you are looking for a spare bed set up for visitors that won’t cost the earth.
