To help take some of the confusion out of buying a new mattress, Cheap Mattress Reviews was founded to provide you with consumer reviews of all the leading mattresses available today.
Those of you searching for cheap king size beds will need to be aware of a few of the size differences between one king and another king. After all, if you are kitting out the spare bedroom to make sure your best friends and relatives have a large and comfortable bed to rest their heads when they stay overnight, you want to make sure it actually fits in the room first!
We’ve all done it – seen something on sale and bought it on impulse just because the price is so great, only to get it back home and wonder what you’re going to do with it.
The first piece of simple advice if you are going shopping for a new bed for the master bedroom or spare room is measure the room’s dimensions first! This especially applies if you are upgrading from a Queen to a King, for example. It sounds obvious but you will need to leave ample space around the 3 sides of the bed to at least walk comfortably without it being a squeeze.
The king size beds you will find in the US will be one of four sizes. The standard King is 76 × 80 inches (193 × 203 cm); the California King is 72 × 84 inches (183 × 213 cm); the Super King, which you will only finds on imported UK mattresses, is 72 × 78 inches (183 × 198 cm) and the Grand King (which is a novelty size made only by Select Comfort Sleep Number beds) is 80 × 98 inches (203 × 249 cm.)
Most of the larger mattresses you will come across will fall into the standard or California King sizes, so you will have simple decision of whether you want the extra width or the extra length in your bed. Not all manufacturers will include the California King but most should feature the standard version – you can easily check this on the manufacturer’s web site.
Be careful that you check what you’re getting for your money with a cheap king size bed as if you buy a poorly made bed that is going into a high use situation there is usually only one outcome, and that’s a dilapidated bed after a short amount of time. Sometimes it’s better to add a few hundred dollars to the budget to avoid this scenario. You can certainly cut more corners with cost if the bed is going into an occasional use situation like a spare room and shopping around online should pay dividends with getting a great bargain in this case.
