Shopping for Cheap Mattress Sets
To help take some of the confusion out of buying a new mattress, Cheap Mattress Reviews was founded to provide you with consumer reviews of all the leading mattresses available today.
Here we present some guidelines to shopping for cheap mattress sets that, despite their price, can still provide the necessary comfort and support benefits in the right situations. We don’t always recommend going cheap but there are some tactics we can use to make sure we get the best deal possible and we actually prefer to talk about value for money than “cheap”.
In certain situations there really is no substitute for going with a recognized, quality manufacturer that has provided consistently well-made, top value products for decades. There are some well-known manufacturers who fit this description amongst many others that cut corners with the making and the materials used in their mattress sets. Just scan through a few of the mattress review sites or forums for all the negative comments about sagging and uncomfortable mattresses and you will see that you have to do your homework before buying.
Doing one’s research means combining the online resources with actually testing out mattresses. There is a lot of good general mattress buying guidelines on manufacturers’ sites, retailers’ sites and also on the best review sites. Using these resources should help you identify what things you should be looking for in the mattress you need.
Of course the type and budget of the mattress you will need depends on what you will be using it for. It is rarely advisable to try to cut corners if you need a model for the master bedroom that will be slept on by you and your partner night after night; you will need comfort, support, robustness and durability if you are hoping for your mattress set to last ten years or more. This will mean that you need to prepare your budget accordingly and justify the extra expense involved by spreading the cost out over the life of the mattress.
If, however, you need a mattress or two to put in the basement for the kids when they have friends over, or you need one for the spare room for visitors the parameters will probably change. In these situations you may consider something like a futon mattress (which can double-up as an item of furniture) or an air mattress. Both of these items can save space and money and have their specific advantages and disadvantages which we won’t go into here.
If after considering the above you still want a cheap mattress and you have your heart set on a particular budget and maybe even have a shortlist of a couple of models after reading about them online, the thing to do is to head for the bedding store and try out the ones you are interested in. Ask questions to the sales assistants and check the details you need to know. This will give you more of an idea about the comfort levels and whether the mattresses in question will be suitable.
If you make a note of the specific model numbers in the store there is nothing to stop you then going back online and seeing if you can get discount mattress sets in the ranges you like. Sometimes online prices can represent huge savings on the list prices – 30-50% is not unusual. Sometimes there are large discounts on discontinued ranges in clearance sales. Just make sure that the mattress does have all the specifications you need and that you buy from an established online retailer that operates good order, payment and delivery procedures.
