Dorlux Mattress Review – Tradition Meets Innovation
To help take some of the confusion out of buying a new mattress, Cheap Mattress Reviews was founded to provide you with consumer reviews of all the leading mattresses available today.
Dorlux are another traditional UK company that has been manufacturing mattresses for almost a century now. They are based in West Yorkshire and maintain the fundamental principals of quality craftsmanship, fine materials and attention to detail that first built their reputation all those years ago. Here we provide a Dorlux mattress review that looks at their collections and gives you a glimpse of what you can expect when buying one of their models, based on two of the mattresses which we take a closer look at.
As with most of the traditional mattress-making pioneers Dorlux made their name from inner-spring mattresses that were built to provide comfort and lasting support to sleepers. Over time they have been forced to be innovative to stay competitive and that has meant developing their spring technologies as well as introducing modern materials like memory foam into their collections.
Their mattresses fall broadly into two main collections: the Pocket collection and the Flexiform collection and we will take a quick look at each one.
The Pocket collection models are pocket-spring mattresses that have a coil density up to 1500 coils. Pocket-springs are individually-nested coils that sit in their own fabric pockets and are not tied individually to each other with wire like the continuous coil technology. The mattresses in this range provide soft, medium and firm finishes depending on their coil density – with 1000 coils providing the softest surface and 1500 coils providing the firmest. The foams that sit on top of the coils are designed to regulate the temperature well so that the sleeper receives the maximum comfort and doesn’t experience any overheating.
The Flexiform mattress is the latest design from Dorlux. This technology was designed by Swiss engineers and has doubled the number of springs that conventional pocket-spring models have. A popular model in this range is the Bordeaux mattress which is a high-lofted micro-quilted set. The bed features multiple layers of soft polyester on top of the pocket-springs, a micro-quilted border, handles for portability and flipping/turning and air vents so that it breathes well.
The Mozart is another popular Dorlux mattress that uses the Flexiform spring technology. However this mattress demonstrates how a traditional manufacturer has move with the times and combines visco-elastic memory foam with the springs to add luxurious comfort levels to the sturdy and supportive spring system. The Mozart features 75mm of memory foam and is finished off with soft-touch knitted fabric made of Cashmere wool, for an extra-silky feel. This mattress requires no turning, but still has handles built in, for ease of moving.
Dorlux have recently added a hypo-allergenic, Flexiform-based latex model to their collection too.
As you can see from these two examples of Dorlux mattresses you can either opt for a traditional well-made pocket spring mattress which you will be able to find at a value-for-money price online, or you can get the best of both worlds combining the latest dense pocket-spring technology with the comforts of memory foam or even latex.
